Job Description

The position involves delivering specialist nursing care to children and young people with SEND in Dysart and Bedelsford special schools, at home, and within community services. The nursing team forms part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities (ISCD), working across health, education, and social care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of clinical nursing care.
  • Delivery of specialist nursing care, including administration of medication, suctioning, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy management, enteral feeding, seizure management, and holistic family support for children/young people and their families.
  • Delivery of specialist training for families and care support staff.
  • Attendance at multi-professional meetings, including child protection case conferences.
  • Providing health advice for education, health, and care plans.
  • Nursing sleep service – supporting children with sleep difficulties, reviewing sleep medication, and offering support and strategies to parents.
  • Mentoring, supporting, and supervising junior staff and student nurses.

About You

  • Registered Children’s Nurse (RN Child/RSCN) or RGN with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in nursing.
  • Community/special school nursing experience.
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities/complex health needs.
  • Knowledge of statutory legislation (e.g., Children's Act) and national policy drivers affecting children's services and your role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Experience supporting staff and students and providing supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload with minimal supervision.
  • Safeguarding knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Car driver and access to a car for work purposes.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of £40,833 - £48,060 per annum, based on SCP30-SCP37. Additional benefits include:
