Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to individuals with learning disabilities.

Our Trust provides a wide range of community and specialist services across Birmingham and the West Midlands. We are committed to delivering excellent patient care and improving health outcomes for our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support psychiatric medical staff working within the Learning Disability Service.
  • Develop and deliver educational initiatives to enhance the skills of the multidisciplinary team and the wider Learning Disability Service.
  • Collaborate with neurology and other health services to ensure seamless access to care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Interface with community mental health services to optimize psychiatric care for service users.
  • Liaise with children's services to ensure smooth transitions into adult care.
  • Adhere to Trust policies, including Equal Opportunities policies, and promote equality of access to healthcare.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota and reciprocal cover arrangements for annual and study leave.
  • Utilize electronic patient records to maintain accurate clinical records and coding.
Person Specification
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Significant administrative and office experience.
  • Relevant higher degree, such as MD, PhD, or MSc, or additional clinical qualifications.
  • Experience in neurodevelopmental disorders, psychological therapies, or liaison.
  • UK experience working at consultant level in specialist services for people with intellectual disability.
  • Recognized basic medical degree.
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience.
