Job Title: NHS Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

About the Role:

  • We are seeking an experienced diabetes specialist dietitian to lead our inpatient and outpatient diabetes services.
  • This is a fixed-term position created by our current post holder commencing maternity leave.
  • The role forms a core member of the UHBW diabetes service and working closely with the wider MDT.

Main Duties:

  1. The Senior Specialist Dietitian will provide a highly specialist clinical service for inpatients who require highly complex dietary & nutrition support therapy within various pathways.
  2. Lead the dietetic element of the diabetes pathway providing direction for peers & colleagues for those patients with diabetes as a primary diagnosis.
  3. Provide a comprehensive specialised service, which includes relevant education and/or training to all healthcare professionals, carers, and other workers.
  4. Provide clinical cover for other specialist dietitians' duties in their absences notably other diabetes clinics & time critical patient care.
  5. Directly line manages junior dietitians, including appraisal & supervision.
  6. Participates in the training/development of junior dietitians, assistant grades, and dietetic students.
  7. Undertakes any other reasonable duties, which may be identified in consultation with the Clinical Lead for Nutrition & Dietetics & Operational Lead for Adult Nutrition & Dietetic / Speech & Language Therapy Services.

Person Specification:

  • Significant experience in chronic disease management - diabetes focused.
  • Experience of training dietetic students at all grades.
  • Experience of audit and/or quality assurance.
  • Experience or involvement of implementing guidance, policy.
  • Teaching/presentation skills in a variety of settings and to professional groups/grades at undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree level.
  • Computer skills i.e. Databases, Excel and use of dietary analysis programs.
  • Counselling skills.
  • Ability to both work alone and as a team player.
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviours of patients, carers and students.

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
