English Literacy Support Specialist

The role of an English Literacy Support Specialist at Midsomer Norton Primary is to provide targeted support to pupils in achieving their full learning potential and target grades in English.

Working closely with the Subject Leader for English and other teachers, you will develop a programme to identify students requiring additional English support and deliver in-class support and small group extraction work.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning processes
  • Delivering individualised and group learning support through various tasks, including assisting students in understanding key texts and poems
  • Conducting literacy assessments on behalf of the department as new students join

With a focus on promoting self-esteem, appropriate effort levels, and behaviour, guiding pupils towards independence, you will also collaborate with SENCO and Subject Leader for English to develop extraction group folders and deliver a 1:1 tutoring programme in English where feasible.

A competitive salary of £28,000 per annum is offered, dependent on experience.
