Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ocean Import Operative to join our team at Silver Arrow Recruitment. As an Ocean Import Operative, you will be responsible for coordinating the importation of goods from overseas, ensuring timely and efficient delivery to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Freight Coordination: Book freight with approved carriers and lines, ensuring that all necessary documentation is in place.
  • Customer Service: Develop and build relationships with clients to provide a high level of customer service and ensure their needs are met.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with overseas agents, suppliers, and clients via email, phone, and internet systems.
  • Documentation: Ensure that all pre-alert documents are on hand prior to vessel arrival and that correct documentation is maintained.
  • Invoice Processing: Process supplier invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Spreadsheet Management: Maintain customer and supplier spreadsheets to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Business Development: Work closely with the sales department to ensure that client activity and business profitability are accurately reported.
  • Departmental Management: Ensure that the departmental manager is aware of the status of all shipments.

Requirements:

  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to provide a professional image to customers and suppliers.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to work in a high-pressure environment while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Commercial Awareness: The ability to instruct a global network of agents, suppliers, shipping lines, and hauliers.
  • Attention to Detail: The skill to prioritize a large number of tasks to ensure accuracy and deliver results with great attention to detail and a high sense of urgency.
  • Positive Attitude: A positive attitude and good problem-solving skills to apply lessons learned.
  • Commercial Acumen: The drive to succeed and want to make a contribution to the business.
