Main Responsibilities

As a Researcher for Gardeners' World, you will work closely with the Series Producer, Horticultural Planning Producer, and Director to provide research support to the team. Your duties will include:

  • Undertaking independent research to a specific brief, evaluating and presenting the information in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Identifying suitable locations, stories, and contributors.
  • Liaising with presenters, contributors, and organisations, both in the office and on location.
  • Sourcing props for filming within BBC editorial guidelines.
  • Providing support for the edit, ensuring factual accuracy throughout and tracking down archive from various sources.
  • Contributing ideas for future episodes and assisting with general programme duties as required.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Researcher with a passion for gardening and a keen interest in horticulture. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working in TV as a Researcher, with knowledge of the production process and some technical know-how.
  • A good understanding of the main organisations involved in horticulture in the UK.
  • Exceptional research skills, with a good nose for a story and the ability to turn complex information into accurate, engaging summaries.
  • Great communication skills, with the confidence to build strong working relationships with a wide range of contacts.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a track record of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-turnaround environment.
  • Good team player.
  • Excellent attention to detail and factual accuracy.
  • Ability to plan ahead for all likely eventualities and suggest solutions to potential situations.
  • Experience of managing and preparing for edits, with a good working knowledge of the BBC archive systems and copyright law.
  • Desire to learn new technical skills as required.
  • Ability to keep accurate records on a shared computer drive for others to refer to.
  • Confident driving various vehicles with a clean and valid driving licence.
  • Able to travel, overnight, and work on location across the UK frequently.
