Job Opportunity at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified play specialist to take on a specialized role within the MRI department. The successful candidate will use specialized play and therapeutic intervention to support children and young people in preparing for and undergoing scans with or without general anesthesia.

The role will involve flexible working hours to facilitate the needs of the service. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Hospital Play Specialist (HPS) with a Foundation Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism or equivalent, and registered with the Society of Healthcare Play Specialists (SOHPS).

Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide a welcoming and child-friendly atmosphere with a caring attitude towards children and their families.
  2. Act as the child's advocate, ensuring the child's best interests come first.
  3. Implement preparation, distraction, post-procedural, and passive play to support children and families through MRI scans and treatment.
  4. Work with the child's family as a whole, respecting their needs and wishes while providing the best care for the child.
  5. Provide written and verbal reports as required and ensure familiarity with documentation.
  6. Be responsible for the general maintenance of toys and equipment as required.
  7. Attend ward/play staff meetings and liaise with the Play Co-ordinator concerning professional development needs.
  8. Take an active role in the training of nursery nursing, nursing, medical, and Hospital Play Specialist students and complete their reports.
  9. Participate in the provision of ongoing education for children and their families about recreation and play activities.
  10. Participate in audits that provide information on the quality and quantity of care provided by Children's Services.
Requirements
  1. Registered HPS with SOHPS.
  2. Qualified HPS - Foundation Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism or equivalent.
  3. 2 years of experience in a hospital play team setting.
  4. Safeguarding training.
Interview Requirements
  1. 3 years of experience in a childcare setting.
  2. Experience working within an MRI department.
