Job Title: Children and Young People Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified play specialist to take on a specialized role within MRI. The successful candidate will use specialized play and therapeutic intervention to support children and young people in preparing for and undergoing MRI scans.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide a welcoming and child-friendly atmosphere with a caring attitude towards children and their families.
  2. Act as the child's advocate, ensuring their best interests come first.
  3. Implement preparation, distraction, post-procedural, and passive play to support children and families through MRI scans and treatment.
  4. Work with the child's family as a whole, respecting their needs and wishes while providing the best care for the child.
  5. Be responsible for ensuring correct preparation for procedures is given.
  6. Liaise with the Play Co-ordinator concerning professional development needs.
  7. Take an active role in the training of nursery nursing, nursing, medical, and Hospital Play Specialist students and complete their reports.
  8. Undertake mandatory training, including cardio-pulmonary, child protection, moving and handling, fire safety, and food handling.
  9. Participate in the provision of ongoing education for children and their families about recreation and play activities.
  10. Participate in audits that provide information on the quality and quantity of care provided by Children's Services.
  11. Assist in monitoring and evaluating the service given to patients and their carers.
  12. Liaise with the Hospital Play Specialist Lead in agreeing how identified training and development needs are to be met.
