We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Histopathology Consultant to join our team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a range of diseases, using your expertise in histopathology to provide critical information to patients and healthcare professionals.

As a Histopathology Consultant, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced medical equipment in the country, using your diagnostic skills to identify disease and develop treatment plans. You will also have the chance to work with a friendly and dedicated team of healthcare professionals, who are passionate about delivering outstanding care to our patients.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Actively supporting patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain a diagnosis using various methods to ensure practical understanding.
  • Working in and where appropriate, leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assessing and prioritizing patient/client requirements, delegating effectively to others.
  • Examining a range of patients, using your diagnostic skills to determine any tests needed.
  • Supporting and advising clinical staff, advising them of the use and limitations of each diagnostic investigation.
  • Providing advice and interpreting test results, assessing the appropriateness of further investigations.
  • Delivering clinical care to patients where needed and conducting ward rounds and outpatient clinics.
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the Pathology Department, where required planning the workload and staffing requirements.
  • Supervising and teaching junior medical staff as required.
  • Carrying out research and keeping up to date with new information.
  • Responsible for adhering to the NMC professional Code of Conduct.

Requirements for the role include:

  • Being a GMC registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
  • Having relevant experience at Consultant level, or references to support your transition up to Consultant level.
  • Holding evidence of stand-alone Right to Work in the UK (unfortunately locum jobs aren't able to offer visa sponsorship).
  • You will need to pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
