Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Information Governance Officer to join our team at the Scottish Funding Council. As a key member of our Information Governance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective management and protection of sensitive information across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the response to information rights requests, providing expert advice and guidance to colleagues across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain effective coordination and liaison with stakeholders and external partners to ensure compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve information governance practices and implement positive change.
  • Manage and advise on internal data protection activities, including Data Protection Impact Assessments and Data Sharing Agreements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) to ensure compliance with data protection laws.
  • Assess and respond to personal data breaches, including reporting to senior management and the ICO as required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data protection and information rights policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on compliance with data protection laws and regulations, including raising awareness of data protection issues and conducting audits.
Requirements
  • Proven experience of leading and working within data protection and information rights, with evidence of supporting an organization in its compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Excellent understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape of all aspects of information governance, including freedom of information, records management, and information security.
  • Personal commitment to continuous professional development, with evidence of staying up-to-date with relevant legislative changes and best practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment when analyzing and responding to complex issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience of drafting reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of work, and prioritize tasks and time appropriately.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to work calmly and at pace.
Benefits
  • Normal full-time hours of work are 35 per week, with flexible working arrangements available.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 26.5 days pro-rata, rising to 30 days pro-rata after 2 years' continuous service.
