About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Principal Social Worker to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT) at Cardiff County Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in safeguarding and upholding the rights of children, young people, and adults.

The EDT provides an out-of-hours service, responding to statutory emergencies and other social work matters that cannot be safely left until the following working day. Our team works collaboratively with partner agencies and other emergency services to provide comprehensive support to our citizens.

As an EDT Principal Social Worker, you will have a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting equality and inclusion for all our citizens. You will work closely with other agencies, such as the Police and Health professionals, to achieve optimum outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assess and respond to statutory emergencies and other social work matters outside of regular working hours
  • To work collaboratively with partner agencies and other emergency services to provide comprehensive support to our citizens
  • To promote equality and inclusion for all our citizens, ensuring that their rights are upheld and protected

Salary and Benefits

This role is attractively paid with an estimated salary range of £43,530 - £58,672 per annum, depending on experience. In addition, you will receive a market supplement of £1,500 (pro-rata), reviewed annually, and unsocial hours shift allowances. You will also have access to a comprehensive range of resources and support to continue your professional development, including hybrid working arrangements, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), and excellent training and development opportunities.

Requirements

We are looking for qualified Social Workers with extensive experience of safeguarding in both adults and children. You will possess excellent assessment and analytical skills, able to make sound risk assessments and decisions in a crisis. You will have experience of assessing risk and complex needs of vulnerable adults and children, and be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies. A degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification, registration with Social Care Wales, and being an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) are essential requirements for this role.
