Fleet Support Technician Job Description

Job Summary:

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a highly skilled Fleet Support Technician to join their team. As a key member of the Fleet and Equipment Department, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of fire service vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed inspections, servicing, and maintenance of fire service vehicles and equipment in accordance with DVSA and CFOA guidelines.
  • Manage a team of staff and ensure that all work is completed to a high standard.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to ensure the smooth operation of the fleet.
  • Develop and implement effective maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure optimal vehicle performance.
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to source and purchase new equipment and vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external suppliers and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and policies.

Requirements:

  • Time-served vehicle mechanic with City and Guilds qualifications or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of managing a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of using fleet management systems and other IT packages.
  • Category C driving license and experience of working in an environment providing fleet cover 24/7.
