About the Role

The Pastoral Support Worker will work collaboratively with school staff and families to empower our pupils and young people to achieve their educational goals and develop life skills in line with their EHCP.

Key Responsibilities
  • To complement the delivery of the school curriculum and provide targeted support to students.
  • To offer pastoral care and guidance to students, enabling them to access their school placement successfully.
  • To work with students to meet the annual targets of their EHCP and develop strategies for support.
  • To liaise with clinical, teaching, and support staff to share best practices and strategies for support.
  • To participate in the development and review of support documentation, including risk assessments, individual learning plans, and opportunity plans.
  • To maintain accurate records and assist in the preparation of routine reports.
  • To be physically fit and energetic, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • To provide absence cover for the class teaching support as needed.
  • To demonstrate empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach when working with students.
About the School

Oakham Shires School is an independent special school for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnoses and special education needs.

The school delivers a primary curriculum to secondary-aged pupils who have struggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational setting.

Pupils are taught in small class groups of 4-5 with a high staff-to-pupil ratio, and are supported to achieve their outcomes within their EHCP, develop life skills, and achieve accreditations in Maths, English, and Science.
