Location: Northampton (hybrid – 3 days on site, 2 WFH)

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum

Job Summary

The Technical Architect will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions. This individual will act as a gatekeeper between the organisation and their Managed Service provider for technical IT solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Evaluation: Designs and evaluates systems architectures, including infrastructure, storage repository creation, and system diagrams.
  • Technical Strategy: Responsible for the physical design of technical solutions and formulating plans to deliver those solutions. Focus on building a technical strategy/roadmap as part of the wider IT strategy.
  • Collaboration: Works with the wider project team, including IT Project Managers, Advanced (Managed Service Provider), and IT Security, to effectively deliver solutions.
  • Technical Expertise: Acts as an IT Infrastructure knowledge expert for the organisation and is responsible for overseeing technology selections and implementation strategies suggested by partners.
  • Business Requirements: Understands the business and non-functional requirements and identifies suitable architecture (including broader technologies, if applicable, application structure, and conceptual approaches) that best meets any relevant budgetary and/or timescale constraints.
  • Architecture Solutions: Translates business needs into long-term architecture solutions.
  • Design Presentation: Owns the design and presents it to the relevant governance bodies for review and approval.
  • Mentorship: Mentors and supports BAU support staff and project resources so they meet their objectives.
  • Defect Triage: Acts as the IT Infrastructure knowledge authority during defect triage and defect resolution.
  • IT Vision: Owns the IT Infrastructure vision and strategy with the Head of IT Operations.
  • Technical Risk: Provides guidance and oversight to minimise technical risk and business risk arising from technology and technical solutions.
  • Design Reviews: Undertakes detailed design reviews.
  • Physical Architectures: Identifies appropriate and cost-effective physical architectures that provide resilience commensurate with business risk and impact.
  • Technical Assurance: Develops a roadmap for technical assurance in line with the organisation's 5-year strategy. This includes:
    • Win 11 Build
    • Network Redesign
    • Server 2012 refresh
    • Central point of control for all infrastructure design to deliver efficiencies through best practice solutions
  • Security: Works in conjunction with the IT Security and Risk Officer in creating and maintaining Security documentation, conducting Security audits, and resolving identified Security issues appropriately.
  • Data Management: Advises on appropriate data backup, disaster recovery, and testing as per policy.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Carries out any other duties requested by line management to achieve the IT department's aims and objectives.
Requirements
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience as a Technical Architect.
  • Azure Experience: Previous track record with Azure.
  • Cloud Migration: Experience of migrating from on-prem to cloud.
