Job Title: Consultant in Paediatrics (Interest in Paediatric Obesity)

The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital is seeking a Consultant in Paediatrics with expertise and interest in paediatric Obesity. The successful applicant will provide high-quality care to patients and support the complications of excess weight (CEW) service.

This post will involve working within a multidisciplinary team, including a psychologist, dietician, physiotherapist, specialist nurse, social worker, family support worker, and administrator. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills in this area post CCT.

Main Duties:
  • Provide 1:8 on-call to the acute paediatric service, including support for inpatient services and outpatient paediatric activity.
  • Support the complications of excess weight (CEW) service.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to patients.
Person Specification:
  • Full GMC with licence to practice.
  • MRCPCH or equivalent.
  • Higher degree such as MD, MSc, or PhD.
Experience:
  • Overseas applications to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in NHS.
  • EPLS or APLS certification.
  • Training to level 3 safeguarding and experience of safeguarding at Specialist Registrar or Consultant level.
Teaching:
  • Experience of formal and on-the-job clinical teaching.
  • Enthusiasm to teach clinical skills.
  • Recognised postgraduate course in teaching/training (T5 or similar).
Clinical Governance:
  • Able to deliver high-quality paediatric care.
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical audit.
  • Logical, analytical, and self-critical approach to practice.
Research:
  • Understanding of research techniques and design.
  • Evidence-based medicine.
  • Published Research.
Circumstances:
  • Flexible outlook on working hours.
  • Must live within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust, or 30 minutes travelling time when on call.
  • Full driving license.
Communication and Language skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology, and support staff.
  • Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.
