We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic psychologist to join our Community Forensic Team (CFT). The post is open to either a B7 registered clinical/forensic psychologist, or a B6 forensic psychologist in training. B6 applicants would be enrolled on the BPS Stage 2 or equivalent training, or be currently eligible to enrol.

The successful candidate will work alongside our Highly Specialist Clinical/Forensic Psychologists and Assistant Psychologist within CFT to provide the psychology elements of the MDT, providing psychological formulation and using evidence-based interventions and assessments. They will provide consultancy and support to other members of the team in implementing a trauma-informed and psychologically minded approach. They will also be part of the wider psychology team in Forensic Services, providing access to a network of peer support and supervision.

The Community Forensic Team works with service users to support them to live their best lives in the community. We do this by providing specialist assessments and interventions for our patient group including those within the transforming care cohort. We work with mentally disordered offenders who present a significant risk of harm to others by nature of their mental disorder, including those registered at MAPPA and those subject to conditional discharge under Part 3 of the Mental Health Act.

Main Duties:
  • Completing initial and continued assessments for individuals referred to our service.
  • Providing specialist psychological interventions to those on our caseload.
  • Providing psychological formulations.
  • Providing consultation and advice to all members of the MDT.
  • Providing advice and consultation to other LPFT teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in psychology recognised by BPS
  • Professional Doctorate in Clinical or Forensic Psychology, or equivalent professional qualification which confers HCPC registration (e.g. BPS Diploma in Forensic Psychology/Stage 2)
  • Registered with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist (forensic or clinical)
  • Training in clinical supervision
Experience:
  • Some experience of working clinically with adults in forensic services, including those with personality disorder, mental ill health and intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Experience of working with adults who have experienced trauma or abuse - physical, sexual or emotional
  • Experience of applying risk assessment both clinical and forensic using structured tools and consulting on issues of risk with other professionals and agencies
  • Experience of conducting service evaluation and research (including as a trainee psychologist)
Skills:
  • Able to communicate and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients with a range of challenging difficulties
  • Able to communicate psychological information to all levels of staff within LPT and in other agencies
  • Good knowledge of psychological theories relevant to psychological disorders and offending behaviour
  • Knowledge of psychometric theory and practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and criminal justice policies pertaining to adults in the criminal justice system
  • Good knowledge of assessment, formulation and interventions in the following areas: Mental health and emotional disorders; Cognitive functioning; Self regulation; Challenging behaviour; Problems in social adjustment; The effects of trauma, abuse or neglect
  • Good knowledge of at least one form of psychological therapy; Skills in: Behavioural assessment (e.g., Functional Analysis); Methods of observation; Assessment by interviewing; Assessment by analysis of archive material; Proficiency in IT, keyboard skills, word processing, and Internet and email use; Knowledge of research design and methodology at postgraduate level
