Job Title: Management Accountant

Job Description:

The Management Accountant will be responsible for preparing monthly management accounts for store variable costs and performing detailed variance analysis. The role will also involve assisting with the production of monthly, half-year, and year-end Group reporting packs and producing monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Additionally, the Management Accountant will be responsible for analysing key cost areas and providing challenge to the retail/procurement teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare monthly management accounts for store variable costs.
  2. Perform detailed variance analysis, with supporting commentary and evidence for any adverse/favourable variances to budget and last year.
  3. Assist with producing monthly, half-year, and year-end Group reporting packs.
  4. Produce monthly balance sheet reconciliations, identifying risks and opportunities and communicating these to the Retail Finance Manager.
  5. Analyse key cost areas and provide challenge to the retail/procurement teams.
  6. Regularly meet with Retail/Procurement to gain an understanding of expected costs, highlight issues as they arise, and challenge costs where necessary.
  7. Assist the Commercial Finance team with the production of annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts for store variable costs.
  8. Implement controls in line with the Group's Financial controls programme.
  9. Assist with audit queries.
  10. Ad hoc project work as required.

Requirements:

  • Part Qualified/Finalist CIMA/ACA/ACCA accountant.
  • Experience of management accounting essential.
  • Strong analytical skills required to identify and remediate risks.
  • Ability to investigate, understand, and explain variances and overall business performance.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal required.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work under own initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
  • Experience using Power BI/Power query advantageous.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Retail industry experience desirable.
  • Experience of Oracle Financials and TM1 useful (though training will be provided).
  • A positive, flexible, enthusiastic, and driven attitude.
