SEN Teaching Assistant

Role Overview:
Protocol Education is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join a bright and inclusive mainstream school. As part of their commitment to inclusion, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic progress of students with special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods and materials as necessary
- Implement and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching staff
- Collaborate with teachers to differentiate instruction and create an inclusive classroom environment
- Support the participation and engagement of students with special educational needs in mainstream classroom activities
- Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and other professionals to share information and insights about student progress and challenges
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians to provide updates on student development and discuss strategies for support at home
- Assist in the creation and adaptation of learning resources to meet the diverse needs of students
- Collaborate with teaching staff to identify and implement appropriate assistive technologies
- Encourage and facilitate the development of independence and self-advocacy skills in students with special educational needs
Requirements:
- Level qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (Desirable not essential)
- Experience working with students with special educational needs, preferably in a mainstream school setting (Desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of various special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language difficulties
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and professionals
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment
