About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Calculation Engineer to join our team at EDF EPR Engineering UK. As a key member of our design team, you will play a crucial role in the design phase of the Hinkley Point C project.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the integrity of the pipe network design and its supporting structures by performing detailed piping calculations and assessing HVAC and electrical supports for various load scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and oversee the piping network, spanning over 100 kilometers, which forms the backbone of the Nuclear Island for the HPC EPR venture.
  • Perform detailed piping calculations and assess HVAC and electrical supports for various load scenarios, including dead weight, thermal expansion, and seismic activity.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design reports and calculations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in the field and apply innovative problem-solving skills to tackle complex engineering challenges.
Requirements
  • Outstanding communication abilities, both in writing and speaking.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical concepts, including modal and static analysis.
  • Proficiency in mechanical simulations, particularly using finite element methods.
  • Programming proficiency, especially in Python, for the development of computational tools.
  • Experience with CAD software for design and modeling.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance related to mechanical engineering.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in previous EPR or other nuclear projects.
  • Experience of UK design context and regulatory processes.
  • High level of technical coordination.
  • Experience in RSTAB or BEAM STRESS and support calculation.
  • Knowledge of RCC-M code (section C3650 at least).
  • Knowledge of CALTUY/Pipestress.
