Job Opportunity

Neo Environmental Ltd, a leading planning and environmental consultancy, is seeking a highly skilled Archaeology and Heritage Consultant to join their team in Ballymena or remotely within Ireland. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidate to work on a diverse range of projects, collaborating with the company's experienced team and clients.

The role will primarily involve supporting the Archaeology and Heritage department in Northern Ireland and Ireland, as well as the wider environmental services team, through the production of archaeology and architectural heritage impact assessments, environmental impact assessment chapters, feasibility studies, fieldwork reports, and other documents as required. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing ongoing fieldwork, including geophysical surveys, excavations, test trenching programmes, watching briefs, and other archaeological fieldwork as needed.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable postgraduate experience in commercial archaeology and a high standard of report writing, communication, and analytical skills. A full driving licence, including own transport, is essential for site visits and walkover surveys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing archaeology and architectural heritage impact assessments, EIA chapters, feasibility studies, fieldwork reports, and other documents as required;
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with team members, clients, local authorities, and sub-contractors;
  • Advising the environmental team and clients regarding archaeology/heritage within planning and development design;
  • Producing quotes and managing the financial aspect of projects;
  • Managing and/or assisting in fieldwork duties when necessary (e.g. walkover surveys, watching briefs, evaluations, excavations).

Requirements

  • Degree in archaeology or related subject;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Technically competent and willing to learn and use GIS;
  • Highly motivated and able to work by themselves and within a team;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Full driving licence and own transport.

Desirable Criteria

  • Good knowledge of general archaeology within Ireland and Northern Ireland;
  • Familiarity with GIS;
  • Experience with producing formal reports and/or input to planning applications;
  • Postgraduate qualification in a heritage, archaeology, or planning discipline;
  • Membership of IAI.
