Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety and Fire Adviser to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a key member of our health and safety team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, visitors, and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct fire risk assessments and inspections of occupied buildings to identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of fire safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
- Collaborate with the Estates and Facilities Department to provide health and safety advice on maintenance and building projects, ensuring that all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
- Deliver training and guidance to employees on health and safety procedures, including fire safety, to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
- Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Manage and report on health and safety incidents, including accidents and near misses, to identify trends and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and contribute to the development of health and safety strategies and initiatives.

Essential Skills- Qualified and competent to undertake fire risk assessments and inspections of occupied buildings.
- Sound knowledge of fire safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise and influence stakeholders.
- Positive and proactive approach to health and safety, with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of autonomy and flexibility.
