Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety and Fire Adviser to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a key member of our health and safety team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, visitors, and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct fire risk assessments and inspections of occupied buildings to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Develop and implement effective health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to employees, managers, and contractors on health and safety matters, including fire safety, hazardous substances, and workplace risks.
- Liaise with the Estates and Facilities team to ensure that maintenance and building projects are carried out safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist in the development and delivery of health and safety training programs to ensure that employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs safely.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Manage accident and incident reporting, including investigating and documenting incidents, and developing strategies to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
- Attend and contribute to health and safety meetings to ensure that the team is informed and engaged on health and safety matters.

Essential Skills- Qualified and competent to undertake fire risk assessments and inspections of occupied buildings.
- Knowledge of fire safety regulations, best practice, and latest industry standards.
- Good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, with a track record of advising and influencing.
- Positive, can-do attitude focused on looking for solutions.
- Proven proficiency to plan and prioritize work with the minimum of supervision, working independently or as part of a team.
- Competent user of IT in an office environment.
- Hybrid working arrangement, with 3 days office-based.
- Salary range in the region of £41,000 to £45,500.
