Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and empathetic Counsellor to join our team at Shooting Star Children's Hospices. The successful candidate will provide high-quality counselling and psychological support to families in West London, addressing the psychological challenges associated with life-limiting conditions and issues of loss and grief.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised counselling and psychological support to families, including those experiencing acute mental health symptoms, trauma, and suicidal ideation.
- Conduct risk assessments, consultations, and sessions on a virtual platform, as well as in-person sessions at our hospice sites.
- Work collaboratively with other multi-disciplinary team members, including counsellors, therapists, social workers, and family support workers.
- Develop and deliver clinical supervision, training, and education to other team members and external organisations.
- Engage with clients from diverse backgrounds, working with issues of equality and diversity within client and organisational contexts.
Requirements:
- Recognised counselling qualification and accreditation with BACP/UKCP.
- Minimum of two years post-qualification experience as a counsellor.
- Strong psychotherapeutic underpinning of counselling practice.
- Ability to risk-assess referrals and make primary assessments of children with life-limiting conditions and their family members.
- Flexibility in utilising multiple approaches and skills across clients to address presenting needs.
- Excellent communication skills and experience of using client databases and Microsoft 365 applications.
Working Arrangements:
The successful candidate will work across both hospice sites, Shooting Star House and Christophers, in Guildford, and will be required to travel to family homes and hospitals as needed. The role involves working in the evening and occasional Saturdays or Sundays, as part of a 24/7 service.
