Job Summary:The Payroll Processor will be responsible for performing the full range of payroll processing activities, including calculation of pay, preparation of payroll records for processing, and reconciliation of payroll discrepancies in a timely manner for the semi-monthly payroll and other special payrolls as needed for all Old Dominion University employees, following University policies and procedures, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other governing bodies as required each pay period.Key Responsibilities:
• Process payroll transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll records, including calculation of pay, benefits, and taxes.
• Ensure compliance with University policies, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other governing bodies as required each pay period.
• Provide excellent customer service to employees and management, responding to payroll-related inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.Requirements:
• Working knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, experience processing payroll.
• Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage-hour regulations, state and federal tax garnishment laws and regulations concerning payroll.
• Some knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work with data processing systems and complete data entry on a mainframe computer and pc software applications (Excel, Word).
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex mathematical computations.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people and to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.Preferred Qualifications:
