Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Traffic Planner to join our team at Speedy Freight. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for developing effective transport plans and controlling resources to ensure customer and business requirements are met while complying with legal responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the effective use of our vehicles and drivers to meet customer and business needs.
  • Negotiate prices with subcontracted drivers to optimize costs.
  • Manage drivers through ongoing communication and the use of navigation analysis tools.
  • Ensure the internal tracking system is maintained to the required standards.
  • Meet specific targets regarding margin, costs per mile, and vehicle utilization.
  • Review allocated customers to ensure work is planned to time and correct equipment is efficiently utilized.
  • Communicate effectively with customer services and drivers to achieve customer KPI targets.
  • Have a working knowledge of the UK highway network and relevant highway standards.
  • Work to deadlines and independently when required.
  • Communicate professionally with all levels of staff and clients.
  • Flexible approach required to cover on-call rota system.

Statutory Duties

  • Cooperate with your employer to enable any legal obligations to be complied with.
  • Do not undertake or request others to undertake any works for which you/they do not hold the required competency or authority to undertake.

Interfaces

Internal:

  • Liaise with General Manager, Customer Service Advisors, Traffic Manager, and other employees at all levels within the Company, compliance to HSE legislation and Company objectives.

External:

  • Customers
  • Suppliers / Drivers
  • Contractors

Technical Skills

  • IT Literate, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Good geographical knowledge and postcodes of the UK

  • Must have excellent attention to detail
