Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled individual to fill the role of Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland. This is a unique opportunity to lead a new independent education inspectorate, providing public assurance in the quality of education and driving improvement in Scottish education.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive inspection plan, ensuring that the approach to inspection is effective in supporting and driving improvement in Scottish education.
- Provide independent professional advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials, based on evidence-based insights and analysis of inspection data and trends.
- Set the frequency, scale, priorities, and focus for inspections, creating an independently informed inspection plan that fulfils the body's strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement a range of strategies to improve outcomes consistent with the National Improvement Framework, including the development of educational policy and practice.
- Lead the establishment of a new standalone public body, funded by the Scottish Government, and ensure that it is well-positioned to deliver its strategic priorities.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials.
- Ensure that the post-holder has personal autonomy, direct access to senior stakeholders, and is responsible for Education Scotland's Scrutiny Directorate, including delegated budget oversight.
- A senior education professional registered (or eligible for registration) with an appropriate professional body, with a proven track record of leading and delivering improvements in excellence and equity.
- Experience of operating successfully at board or senior level using strong political acuity, in a complex organisation, delivering cultural and high-profile programmes of change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide evidence-based advice and recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering outcomes and achieving results.
- Personal resilience and ability to work under pressure, with a strong sense of accountability and exposure.
