Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time

The University of Bristol seeks an experienced Strategic Communications Professional to lead on communication and engagement for the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) programme. This fixed-term role will play a vital part in shaping the programme's public image, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and promoting research findings.

About the Role

This senior communications position involves managing a small team responsible for developing innovative strategies to engage participants, driving media attention, and disseminating information through various channels. The ideal candidate will be skilled in crafting compelling narratives, designing visually appealing materials, and leveraging social media platforms to amplify the programme's impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, coordinating, and measuring the NCMD communications activity across multiple channels – media, events, social media, web, film, email newsletters, and print materials.
  • Supporting researchers in planning, undertaking, and evaluating a range of public engagement approaches, keeping up-to-date with best practice.
  • Designing and developing engaging, targeted campaigns, content, press releases, and messages suitable for use across a range of channels and from a range of sources and stakeholders.
  • Managing a team, including carrying out development reviews, monitoring staff performance, managing sickness, and disciplinary issues.

We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile communications professional who can effectively engage audiences, drive change, and make a difference for children and young people across England. The successful candidate will possess excellent writing, editing, and project management skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Please note that this role involves dealing with sensitive information on children who have died. We offer support to help deal with this aspect of the role, but recommend candidates carefully consider this requirement before applying.

We offer a competitive salary range of £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including access to training and development opportunities, a generous pension scheme, and flexible working arrangements.

The University of Bristol is committed to creating an inclusive working environment where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best. We welcome applications from individuals with different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
