About the Role

As a key member of our team, your primary responsibility will be to work in partnership with the Criminal Justice Agencies and the Judiciary to promote the quality of work delivered by the Youth Offending Service. Your role will involve influencing remand and sentencing decisions, particularly in reducing the use of remands to youth detention.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Influencing remand and sentencing decisions to reduce the use of remands to youth detention.
  • Undertaking assessments, including safeguarding and vulnerability, to determine the appropriateness of placements for children and young people entering the secure estate.
  • Enforcing Statutory YOT Orders, preparing and conducting breach and revocation proceedings in court.
  • Collecting, collating, and maintaining data necessary for the efficient performance and evaluation of YOT services.
  • Liaising with other agencies involved in the court process, presenting and disseminating YOS information, formal reports, and interventions to Judges and Magistrates.
  • Contribution to delivering a service that offers equality of opportunity and regards the needs of children, young people, and their parents or carers.
  • Coordinating remands to local authority accommodation at the Court stage.
  • Producing placement information and post-custody reports within the asset plus framework as required by the Youth Justice Board.

Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will require strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You must have a good understanding of the Youth Offending Service and the Criminal Justice System.
