We are seeking a highly skilled Apprentice Controls Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for driving the realization of project-specific requirements with existing functionalities, integrating our energy storage control system into transmission system operator (TSO) EMS systems, and working with field engineers to resolve issues during commissioning and testing.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer or industrial engineering, with a focus on automation and controls. You will have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in controls/software/programming, with a power utility or related industry. Proficiency in Linux-based systems, high-level programming languages, and MathWorks Simulink is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drive project team on realization of project-specific requirements with existing functionalities.
  2. Integrate energy storage control system into TSO EMS systems, developing logic and control schemes for remote and local operation.
  3. Collaborate with field engineers to resolve issues during commissioning and testing.
  4. Support product development engineering of utility-scale energy storage solutions.
  5. Develop standardized test procedures and execute tests to reduce commissioning time.
  6. Drive interface to client and sub-contractor to support controls compliance.
  7. Stay current with company products, developments, and projects.
  8. Remain current on industry best practices and updated technology.
  9. Develop and recommend performance management and feedback.
  10. Execute tasks related to Fluence' safety KPIs.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's / Master's degree in computer / industrial engineering with focus on automation and controls.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in controls/software/programming with a power utility or related industry.
  3. Proficiency in Linux-based systems, high-level programming languages, and MathWorks Simulink.
  4. Nice to have: experience in design, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage electrical equipment.
  5. Fluency in English.
  6. German / other language skills.
