The Henry Smith Charity is a leading grant-making organisation, committed to addressing social and economic exclusion in the UK. With a mission to empower individuals and families facing adversity to thrive, our work focuses on creating positive, long-term change.

We are currently seeking a Strategic Director to lead our Safer Futures programme, which aims to tackle disparities in equity, safety, and justice across various areas, including employment opportunities, education, migration, and domestic abuse.

This role involves driving forward our 2025 strategy, working collaboratively with grantees, partners, and other funders to ensure maximum impact, influence, and systems change. You will play a key role in developing relationships with stakeholders across the sector, including policy makers, researchers, and delivery organisations.

As Strategic Director, you will be responsible for managing a dedicated team and overseeing an annual budget of approximately £10 million. Your primary objective will be to secure grants that have a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve, ensuring they are aligned with the strategic goals of The Henry Smith Charity.

To succeed in this role, you will need significant experience of working in at least one of the following areas: prisons and criminal justice, the asylum and migration system, or sexual and domestic abuse sector. A strong understanding of effective interventions and the current policy landscape in this field is essential.

A proven track record of leadership, including managing teams and complex projects, is also required. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate expertise in fostering partnerships and driving collaboration with external stakeholders. Entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for driving positive, sustainable change are highly valued qualities in this position.
