Residential Respite Unit Leadership Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Children's Staff Nurse to develop leadership skills within our Squirrels Residential Respite Unit. This is a fixed-term 12-month post.

To be successful, you must be a Children's Nurse with recent experience of working with children and young people and/or with children's respite services (within the last 12 months).

We are seeking a Senior Children's Staff Nurse to work as an autonomous practitioner leading within our Children's short breaks service. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing direction and leadership to junior staff, including management supervision and clinical oversight.
  2. Assisting junior staff to prioritise, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with Trust policies, procedure protocols and guidelines.
  3. Completing a holistic assessment of the CYP identifying their nursing needs.
  4. Developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate care plans and comprehensive packages of care.
  5. Providing quality care to children in partnership with families and carers as commissioned and described within the service specifications.
  6. Delivering direct patient care to meet the physical and emotional needs of the child/young person, taking account of specialised feeding, respiratory regimes and medication.
  7. Taking all possible steps to ensure the safety and welfare of children and staff.
  8. Carrying out all relevant aspects of care adhering to NCH&C Trust Policy/procedure and Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines.
  9. Undertaking risk assessments and completing Datix reporting as required.
  10. Communicating effectively with child, parents/carers and the wider multi-agency staff regarding the child's wellbeing needs to ensure continuity of care.

As a Senior Children's Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for leading and developing effective discharge from hospital to home or respite setting, carrying out risk assessments in line with continuous care assessment to ensure seamless transition to home or into a respite setting.
