About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board. This is an exciting opportunity to develop services and work towards a 24-hour single point of admission service supported by two treatment wards.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will have the ability to make your mark and drive positive change, with support from a multidisciplinary management team who are strongly focused on working with clinical colleagues.

You will be allocated a Consultant who has personally completed the Portfolio Pathway (CESR) process as an educational and clinical supervisor to guide you through the process and help you with your portfolio. Your training will aim to mirror that delivered by a higher specialty training programme and utilize portfolio evidence in the same way.

The Consultant Psychiatrist role is situated in Fendrod Ward in Cefn Coed Hospital, which is a short commute from various locations including Swansea, Cardiff, West Wales, Neath, Port Talbot, Bridgend, and surrounding areas.

Main Duties of the Job

  • The successful post holder will be instrumental in developing the Outline Business Case with the senior management team, ensuring their clinical voice is heard and valued.
  • They will also contribute to the development of new inpatient services and the interface with community teams.
  • In addition, they will be involved in working with and developing community crisis services, aligned with national priorities.

  • A competitive annual salary of approximately £110,000 - £140,000 depending on experience.

Requirements

  • To be medically qualified, MRC Psych or equivalent.
  • To be innovative and imaginative with the ability to initiate service improvement.
  • To have an excellent understanding of current developments in psychiatry and other aspects of mental health.
  • To have substantial knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, contemporary issues in mental health, knowledge of and experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues.
