The National Speciality Advisory (Emergency Medicine) will play a crucial role in providing clinical leadership, advice, and strategic oversight of emergency medical services. This position will work closely with the Regional IUEC teams and the National Clinical Director for IUEC to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Leadership: Provide clinical expertise and advice to the Regional IUEC teams and the National Clinical Director for IUEC.
  2. Strategic Oversight: Assess and advise on the clinical safety, governance, and effectiveness of emergency medical services within respective regions.
  3. Advice and Guidance: Offer advice and guidance to the National Clinical Director as needed.
  4. Best Practice Development: Help develop and deliver best practice across the field of emergency medicine, working closely with local teams and stakeholders.
Regional and National Contributions
  1. Regional Representation: Represent emergency medicine services at regional and national forums as needed.
  2. Clinical Expertise: Offer clinical expertise in relation to IUEC at a national level.
UEC Transformation Team

As a National Speciality Advisory (Emergency Medicine), you will be part of the Senior Management function of the UEC Transformation Team, within the Directorate of Integrated Urgent and Emergency Care (IUEC). You will have direct experience of Emergency Medicine (EM) and proven expertise to better understand the issues relevant to ED pressures.

Key Performance Indicators
  1. Model Hospital Data Analysis: Use Model Hospital Data, including the Admitted Patient Breach Rate (APBR) and Aggregated Patient Delay (APD), to identify Trusts carrying the greatest risks to patient safety and outcomes.
  2. ED and Urgent Care Performance Monitoring: Monitor ED and urgent care performance within the region.
  3. Trend Identification and Analysis: Identify trends in performance and advise on causes of such trends.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders inside and outside NHS England as required to promote the UEC transformation programme.
NHS England's Purpose

The NHS England board has set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all. This purpose will inform the detailed design work and will be achieved by:

  1. Improving Local Systems: Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.
  2. Optimising Digital Technology: Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation.
Working Arrangements

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Advice to National Clinical Lead: Provide advice to the National Clinical Lead for A&E on short-term operational issues within the region relevant to A&E departments.
  2. Monthly Reporting: Report monthly to the National Clinical Advisor (A&E) NHS England.
  3. Patient Confidentiality: Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and adhere to NHS Improvement's and/or local 'whistle blower' policies.
  4. Hospital Infection Prevention: Ensure that he follows client Trust's hospital infection prevention and control (HIC) policies and procedures to protect patients, staff, and visitors from health care-associated infections.
