Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Finance Manager to join our team at The Cumbria County Council. As a key member of our Finance Service, you will play a vital role in providing technical financial expertise and supporting the Group Accountant.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in providing VAT and taxation advice services, with a strong technical background in accounting covering all aspects of budget preparation, in-year monitoring, and forecasting.

In addition to your technical skills, you will be an excellent communicator, able to represent the Finance Team at meetings with Members, Chief Officers, and external organizations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage, motivate, and support the development of staff within the team.
  • Maintain accounting records to a high standard, complete financial statements, grant claims, and reconcile control accounts, VAT returns, and annual partial exemption calculations.
  • Support the production of the Council's statutory accounts and liaise with the external auditor as required.
  • Act as the Council's technical expert in the field of Local Government VAT, organizing and providing such advice and training as is required to other Officers and Members.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the Council's principal bank accounts, including the release of AP and payroll BACS and cheque runs, prompt and accurate reconciliation of the bank accounts.

Earn up to £44,711 per annum, depending on experience. Salary estimate based on location and job requirements.
