Job Overview

The Special School Nurse will provide specialist paediatric care, advice, and clinical management for a defined caseload of children and young adults. This role involves working closely with the special schools nursing team to coordinate multidisciplinary assessments and develop strategies to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of the child and their family.

Main Responsibilities

Provide specialist paediatric care, advice, and clinical management for a defined caseload of children and young adults.
Coordinate multidisciplinary assessments and develop strategies to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of the child and their family.
Provide information for children and families in an accessible manner to enable understanding and informed decision-making about the course of their care.
Act as a lead professional where appropriate, liaising with education, social services, health, and voluntary sector to optimise the child's quality of life.
Be sensitive to the cultural and spiritual needs of patients and families from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Be able to work as a skilled team member, providing support to colleagues.
Contribute to the educational needs of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring their capability and confidence to care for the child in the educational setting.
Act as a mentor for students.
