Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Genetic Counsellor to join our dynamic and supportive team at the South West Thames Centre for Genomics. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing a specialist area of genetic counselling, with a focus on rare disease and prenatal work.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will have a mixed caseload and be responsible for triage/case review/line management for the team, including cancer, rare disease, prenatal, and possibly other specialist genetics clinics. You will also support our training programme for STP trainees and MSc students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical consultation, counselling, and referral support for patients, midwives, consultants, and other health professionals in the region.
  • Develop and provide collaborative multidisciplinary services to best support our patients.
  • Support the development of patient information literature and initiate patient engagement.
  • Work closely with various referrers to develop and provide collaborative multidisciplinary services.
About Us

We provide an integrated clinical genetics service for individuals or families who have, or are at risk of having, a genetic disorder. We deliver this service at St George's Hospital, a leading London teaching hospital, and in a number of local district hospitals across the region.

Requirements
  • Registered with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRAB) or equivalent.
  • Valid Sign-off Mentor/Assessor training.
  • Experience as a Band 8a Principal Genetic Counsellor.
  • Advanced counselling skills and previous telephone counselling experience.
  • Ability to identify and lead on service developments within the genetic counselling service.
