Lead Nurse – Infection Prevention and Control Specialist

The Lead Nurse for Infection Prevention and Control will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) service. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Surveillance, management, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) and alert organisms
- Audit of clinical environment and practices related to IPC
- Outbreak prevention and control
- Development and implementation of IPC policies and strategies
The post holder will be responsible for leading and providing expert advice on issues related to the prevention and control of infections and infectious diseases. This will involve:
- Leading the IPC service and providing expert advice to staff, patients, and service users
- Developing and implementing IPC policies and strategies
- Ensuring the smooth operation of the IPC service

Key ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will be responsible for:
- Leading all IPC audit and surveillance activity
- Functioning as an autonomous practitioner providing expert-level care
- Ensuring site visits and conducting audits for all new builds, refurbishments, and environmental alterations
- Representing the trust and the profession at meetings and conferences
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Developing strategies to ensure all trust employees contribute to the achievement and adhere to policies and clinical practices developed for the prevention and control of infection
- Coordinating the monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators
- Leading and preparing for the Infection Control Committee and Surgical Site Infection group
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Sustaining/leading an effective means of capturing incidents relating to the IPC service
- Liaising with the Deputy Chief Nurse and the Deputy Director for Quality to advise and contribute to clinical governance activities
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Networking with other CNS specialist services throughout the UK
- Acting as a research resource in IPC matters
