Research Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation, NIHR Infrastructure

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Manager to support the monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities of our National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio of clinical and applied health research infrastructure funding schemes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the annual reporting process, including the maintenance of forms and guidance notes, organisation of briefing workshops for award holders, and collation of annual reports.
  • Support the review and implementation of new approaches to annual reporting, taking into account the need to provide both adequate assurance and up-to-date evidence of progress and impacts.
  • Analyse reporting outputs, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis for projects across the infrastructure portfolio.
  • Provide flexible support to the team and line manager, taking a flexible approach to work tasks and providing support on additional tasks across the team during busy times.
Requirements:
  • A Master's or PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience).
  • A basic understanding of the processes involved in monitoring funding awards and evaluation of programmes.
  • Some experience of working in one of the following environments: major research funding/management, research management within the NHS or HEIs, clinical trial/study coordination, including in applied health areas such as pharma, biotech, or academia.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, and work to challenging targets and deadlines.
  • Evidence of ability to write reports and analyse data, demonstrating excellent attention to detail.
  • Team player with an ability to build effective working relationships.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Current knowledge of the UK's health and care research and policy landscape.
  • Experience in research/grants management and/or monitoring and evaluation of research.
  • Experience in stakeholder management within and across multiple organisations.
