Key Contract Specialist Role in Health and Care Research

We are seeking a highly skilled Contract Specialist to join our team at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The successful candidate will have extensive experience in drafting and negotiating research contracts, including research funding and collaboration agreements.

The NIHR is one of the UK's largest funders of health and care research, and this role will play a vital part in shaping and supporting the development of our infrastructure and program contracts. As a Contract Specialist, you will work closely with our IP Unit to provide specialist contractual advice to NIHR colleagues and external stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the drafting and negotiation of new NIHR Infrastructure and Programme contracts, ensuring that NIHR has appropriate rights when providing funding and that risks to the Department of Health and Social Care are suitably managed.
  • Provide expert guidance on contract-related matters, including intellectual property and commercialisation, to NIHR internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Liaise with NIHR programme teams to ensure that all contracts follow correct procedures for sign-off.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in drafting and negotiating research contracts, preferably in a healthcare or research setting.
  • Familiarity with UK government policies relating to research and innovation.
  • Strong understanding of contract law and research funding landscape in the UK.
