Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Apprentice Highway Engineer to join our team at Essex Highways. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for the analysis and design of bridge and retaining wall structures in reinforced concrete and steel.

The Role

  1. To prepare, design, plan, and programme highway structures works and services, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  2. To provide clear and effective project leadership, guiding junior staff and mentoring them in the delivery of structural design and development of highway structures schemes.
  3. To assist in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services, ensuring timely completion and budgetary control.
  4. To contribute to the development of innovative solutions for highway structures, leveraging your expertise in bridge and retaining wall engineering.
  5. To collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and stakeholders, to deliver high-quality projects that meet customer needs.

Requirements

  • Chartered or working towards Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a background in highway bridge engineering.
  • Education: Civil Engineering Degree or Masters, or equivalent high-level qualification.
  • Recent experience in undertaking structure analysis and calculations in RC and leading and mentoring junior engineers in the delivery of highway structures projects.
