About the Role
AWE Plc is seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Engineer to join its Mechanical Safety Team within the Engineering Safety Organisation. This team provides complex professional engineering judgment for the effective implementation of technical engineering safety.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to take on new challenges and contribute to the success of our organisation.

As a Senior Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for setting, managing, and assessing standards of competence for Mechanical Engineering Safety Appointed people such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons.

You will also review suitability of Mechanical safe systems of work for maintenance delivery by AWE and contract personnel for compliance with relevant regulations.

Furthermore, you will review legislative records pertaining to engineering safety and provide advice on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety.

You will have oversight of supply chain's specialist contractors application of engineering safety when delivering tasks.

Your key responsibilities will include providing technical support in resolving complex and multifaceted issues across the business.

You will also support the development and efficient operation of the Engineering Safety Organisation.

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:
  • Strong mechanical engineering background with an engineering/mechanical-related qualification (Level 4/HNC/HND) or equivalent suitable experience.
  • Good understanding of PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, and associated inspection and maintenance requirements.
  • Conversant in relevant British Standards and Industry Standards.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of maintaining mechanical building services, HVAC systems, industrial gas systems.
  • Preferably held or holds an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person appointment (AUENG/MS1/AP11/APMPS or equivalent).
  • The ability to deliver engineering across an equivalent manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure facilities and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment.
  • Experience of working on large civil construction projects - desirable.
  • Experience of identifying, managing and reporting on engineering safety risks to senior management.
  • Previous experience of leading the delivery of engineering services across the life of an asset.
