Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of supporting practice for people with disabilities, including learning disability, autism/ADHD, physical disability, and hearing/sight impairment.

About the Role:

As a key member of the Devon County Council team, you will play a significant role in driving practice change, continuous improvement, and service development, informed by current evidence-based policy, guidance, methodology, and research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that effective practice for people with disabilities is seen as an organisational priority and that continuous improvement is integral to practice.
  • Provide advice, support, and physical presence in the community and county-wide teams to develop the skills and confidence to support people with disabilities who have complex needs.
  • Help drive the culture change to promote greater independence and progression through a strength-based approach with better access to information and advice, community-based options, and TEC solutions.
  • Ensure that managers are monitoring risk to timely, safe, and effective service delivery, alerting more senior managers to risk and issues as these arise or increase.
  • Analyse relevant practice and performance data to identify strengths and weaknesses in operational practice.
  • Provide expert professional, technical, and practice advice to staff, encompassing guidance about the requirements of policy and legislation.
  • Advise, and on occasion lead, co-ordinate, and manage arrangements to resolve casework situations where there is a high level of risk and complexity.
  • Review the quality of practice against required standards, provide feedback, and support and monitor improvement where required.

About You:

You must be a registered Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Nurse, with a real passion for people, quality, and practice improvement.

You will have experience of managing people and a proven ability to drive change. You will be able to use 'coaching' type skills in supporting staff to develop their practice.

You will need to demonstrate good communication across all mediums (electronic, written, verbal) with an ability to take account of the audience that is receiving the information.

What We Can Offer:

  • Excellent support and supervision, with regular opportunities to discuss and reflect on your practice, both with your line manager and peers.
  • Commitment to your continuous professional development and preceptorship, doing all we can to help you excel in your career and with new and exciting opportunities for career development.
  • 26 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, rising incrementally to 31 days after 5 years' service.
  • Flexible working opportunities, including part-time hours, flexitime, compressed working hours, and homeworking (subject to the needs of the role).
  • Opportunity to enter a generous Local Government Pension and discount schemes.
  • Relocation support of up to £10,000, subject to qualifying conditions, and visa sponsorship may also be offered as part of the relocation support package.
