This role will:
• Ensure that good safeguarding practice is embedded and that safeguarding is seen as an organisational priority.
• Ensure continuous improvement is integral to practice; this will include being up to date with published best practice, research and being solution focussed in approach.

This role will involve:

Providing expert professional, technical and practice advice to staff; encompassing guidance about the requirements of policy and legislation, ensuring that teams learn and develop their knowledge such that they are better equipped to manage safeguarding enquiries in the future. Analysing relevant safeguarding data in order to identify strengths, areas for improvement in order to develop robust practice improvement plans in operational practice; Advise, and on occasion lead, co-ordinate, and manage arrangements to resolve safeguarding situations where there is the highest level of risk and complexity. Reviewing the quality of practice through agreed audit tools. This will include the development of collaborative improvement plans, supporting, monitoring and reporting on progress as required. Building and maintain links within Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Adults Partnership member agencies, and Children’s services, with a view to developing best practice and continuous improvement across all services. Support with the design, development and review of the learning and development programme with regard to safeguarding adults duties. Being a Member of the Practice and Process Group and taking responsibility for the development and delivery of safeguarding practice focussed resources. Shaping and contributing to the development of the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) and Modern Slavery response. Supporting the organisation in reviewing the Serious Incident process (where there is some overlap with safeguarding) and supporting individual TMs, CSMs, ADs in their writing of such reports and developing action plans. Lead on the safeguarding aspects of regulation reporting, case tracking and preparing for CQC.


About you:
You must be a registered Social Worker, Nurse or Occupational Therapist with a real passion for safeguarding practice. You will need an extensive knowledge of the legislation. This is in the context of developing Case Law and interactions with other statutory frameworks The Human Rights Act and Care Act.

You will have experience of managing people and a proven ability to drive / effect change. You will be able to use ‘coaching’ type skills in supporting staff to develop their practice.

You will need to demonstrate good communication across all mediums (electronic, written, verbal) with an ability to take account of the audience that is receiving the information. This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Managed by the Principal Social Worker, this role will also work closely with the Service Manager for the Devon Safeguarding Adults Service and professional practice colleagues, who support the work of the Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Adults Partnership.
