Lead for Practice Enhancement and Transformation

Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

This position presents a unique opportunity to spearhead the advancement of our safeguarding practices.

We anticipate that this role will be innovative and transformative, addressing emerging themes in practice with a focus on best practices. You will have the chance to influence strategies that foster exemplary practices and positive outcomes in safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that exemplary safeguarding practices are integrated into the organization, establishing safeguarding as a top priority.

• Promote continuous improvement in practice; this will involve staying informed about the latest best practices, research, and adopting a solution-oriented approach.

Your Role Will Include:

Offering expert professional, technical, and practical guidance to staff; this includes advice on policy and legislative requirements, ensuring teams enhance their knowledge to better manage safeguarding inquiries in the future. Evaluating relevant safeguarding data to identify strengths and areas needing improvement, thereby developing comprehensive practice enhancement plans. Advising, and occasionally leading, coordinating, and managing strategies to address safeguarding situations characterized by high levels of risk and complexity. Assessing the quality of practice through established audit tools, which will involve creating collaborative improvement plans and supporting, monitoring, and reporting on progress as necessary. Establishing and maintaining connections within the safeguarding partnership agencies and children's services, aimed at fostering best practices and ongoing improvement across all services. Assisting in the design, development, and evaluation of the learning and development program concerning safeguarding duties. Participating as a member of the Practice and Process Group, taking charge of the creation and delivery of resources focused on safeguarding practices. Contributing to the development of the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), and responses to Modern Slavery. Supporting the organization in reviewing the Serious Incident process (where it intersects with safeguarding) and assisting individual team managers, case supervisors, and assistant directors in drafting reports and formulating action plans. Leading on safeguarding components of regulatory reporting, case tracking, and preparations for oversight bodies.

About You:
You must be a registered Social Worker, Nurse, or Occupational Therapist with a genuine enthusiasm for safeguarding practices. A thorough understanding of relevant legislation is essential, particularly in the context of evolving case law and interactions with other statutory frameworks, including the Human Rights Act and Care Act.

You should possess experience in people management and a proven track record of driving and implementing change. Utilizing 'coaching' skills to support staff in enhancing their practice is crucial.

Excellent communication skills across various mediums (electronic, written, verbal) are required, with the ability to tailor your message to suit the audience. This role necessitates the capability to articulate all spoken aspects with confidence and fluency in English.

What We Offer:

We are dedicated to your ongoing professional development, striving to maximize your career potential. You will receive outstanding support and supervision, with regular opportunities for reflection and discussion regarding your practice with both your line manager and peers. We provide 26 days of annual leave, in addition to Bank Holidays, increasing incrementally to 31 days after five years of service. Flexible working arrangements are available, including part-time hours, flexitime, compressed hours, and remote work (subject to the role's requirements – please discuss further during the interview). We offer the chance to participate in a generous Local Government Pension Scheme. Devon is an exceptional place to live and work, featuring top-tier schools, universities, vibrant cities, charming villages, and some of the most stunning coastlines and countryside in the UK.
