Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Specialist or Draughtsperson to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for undertaking a variety of engineering tasks, including designing, researching, and prototyping new products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop detailed designs and models of parts and assemblies using CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or Inventor.
  2. Measure and reproduce drawings of supplied parts and samples, applying correct tolerances and geometric tolerancing.
  3. Conduct site visits for surveying and engineered solutions purposes.
  4. Liaise with customers regarding requirements and technical details.
  5. Sourcing engineering technical data (seals, bearings, bought-in parts, materials, etc.).
  6. Perform engineering calculations (density of materials, motor requirements, sealing solutions).
  7. Provide 3D CAM model data to the machine shop.
  8. Issue drawings/jobs to the machine shop.
  9. Perform measuring checks on machined parts.
  10. Data entry (logging of orders on database, work scheduler).
  11. Produce DXF drawings from customer drawings, sketches, and templates for use by profiling (laser/waterjet).
  12. Reverse engineer parts from customer samples.
  13. Produce folding drawings for press operators.
  14. Calculate material requirements for rolled parts.
  15. Convert drawing formats for laser department.
Requirements
  • Ideal education: minimum HND level in Mechanical Engineering (Degree preferred).
  • Excellent grasp of engineering and design principles.
  • Creative, logical approach for generating new ideas and solutions.
  • Solid knowledge of SolidWorks and/or Inventor CAD, technical drawings, and 3D modelling.
  • Good understanding of metals, materials, and components.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.

Competitive salary of £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
