Role Summary

The Finance Business Partner will provide accurate and timely financial information to support the Business Unit Manager in the effective running of the business unit. They will be responsible for building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with operational and administrative staff, possessing excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong commercial awareness.

Key Objectives

Responsible for the finance and financial control of the entire business unit.

Advises and supports the Business Unit Manager and operational staff by providing and interpreting analytical information to enable effective decision making.

Provides support in ensuring that the rules, principles, and internal control requirements of the Group are met.

Ensure the business unit meets all its financial reporting obligations.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

General Accounting: Ensure transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner and in accordance with the group and accounting rules.

Payroll & Tax: Support the ADP Payroll and payroll processing duties, ensuring the appropriate working rules with respect to pay are applied, and provide cover as necessary.

Financial Planning & Analysis: Be actively involved with the annual budget preparation process, regular analysis of KPIs, and analysis and explanation of overhead spend and variances to budget.

Project Accounting and Monitoring: Support the Project Managers in understanding their projects, coach/train Project Managers on the Project Accounting Systems, and perform monthly project reviews to ensure project performance is properly and prudently assessed.

Cash Management: Evaluate the credit worthiness of new and existing clients, ensure invoicing is maximized, and ensure effective and efficient credit control in the business unit.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training: CIMA or other relevant accounting qualification.

Skills and Experience: Prior experience in Project Accounting essential, ideally worked in an engineering environment, and knowledge of group reporting an advantage.

Communication: Outstanding oral and written communication skills are imperative for this role, with the ability to translate financial analysis into clear strategic objectives.

Quality and Accuracy: An eye for detail, focused on quality and accuracy, within a fast-paced environment, without compromising deadlines.

Financial: Strong financial skills applied in a project costing context, ability to analyze and interpret variances, and good knowledge of basic accounting functions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Timesheets.

IT: Strong IT skills in particular, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and knowledge of using an ERP would be beneficial (SAP or Navision preferable).

Organisation and Management: Able to plan and deliver projects within agreed timeframes, excellent organizational skills, experience of managing people, ability to influence others, and a self-starter who can work on their own initiative but also be able to work effectively as part of a team.
