Job Title: Salaried GP

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Salaried GP to join our team at Steppingstones Medical Practice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a busy and interesting clinical caseload, working as part of a team of practice GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality general practice services to patients.

The post-holder will undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, on-call, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with clinical queries, patient test results, and medical reports.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively in a team, and have a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records, adhere to practice policies and procedures, and participate in regular clinical governance and quality activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality medical services to patients registered with the practice
  • Referencing patients as appropriate and in accordance with local protocols and procedures
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Managing long-term conditions in accordance with practice, local, and national clinical guidelines
  • Undertaking duties such as prescription signing, prescribing reviews, telephone advice, and queries
  • Participating in the Duty Doctor rota, which involves dealing with urgent appointments, home visits, telephone calls, and urgent results
  • Undertaking clinics, postnatal checks, child developmental checks as agreed or required
  • Prescribing generically and in accordance with the practice formulary/ICB formulary
  • Providing appropriate health promotion advice to all patients
  • Undertaking a share of workflow management of incoming correspondence
  • Providing medical reports and letters that require clinical input
  • Ensuring good clinical governance is part of patient care and other practice activities
  • Adhering to practice guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Practicing evidence-based medicine
  • Taking ongoing responsibility for patients with difficult and complex problems, including consistent follow-up

The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Non-clinical responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining clinical records (manual/electronic) in line with good practice and in accordance with practice procedures, including appropriate coding as agreed in the practice
  • Maintaining administrative records in relation to GMS contract, enhanced services contracts, and Long Term Conditions Framework and becoming LTC lead, including coding
  • Working as part of a team to ensure targets are met
  • Working in line with agreed practice procedures and protocols
  • Being available for informal contact with team members, especially other practice GP colleagues
  • Attending and participating on a regular basis on in-house clinical, and educational meetings
  • Contributing to the practices clinical governance and quality activities, including clinical audit
  • Maintaining regular and consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
  • Preparing for and completing the annual external appraisal system, maintaining a license to practice
  • Preparing for and completing the revalidation process
  • Undertaking training that meets personal, statutory, and mandatory and practice learning needs, including recording of learning, reflection, complaints, etc.
  • Participating in and contributing to learning activities such as significant event reviews, clinical audit, protected learning time, video analysis of consultations
  • Contributing to delivering teaching for doctors in training in the practice
  • Supporting and developing our other clinical and non-clinical colleagues

  • Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards, and guidelines will affect own work
