Job Summary:
The Engineering Team at Teledyne UK Limited seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Optical Engineer to join their team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for overseeing the optical design and analysis of a new payload for the European Space Agency (ESA). Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that the payload meets the project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and provide feedback on optical design and analysis documentation, balancing technical requirements with programmatic and budget constraints.
- Provide support to project teams on optical design, analysis, and build throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work with subcontractors, customers, and suppliers to deliver an optical design solution and analysis that meets the project requirements.
- Advise on risk, programmatic, and budgetary issues with respect to proposed designs.
- Train and mentor other team members on optical design, analysis, and technology.
- Support and contribute to the preparation of bid and proposal material.
Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of optical design, preferably for space applications, with a working knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
- Ability to prioritize and support multiple optical design issues in parallel.
- Basic opto-mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to review designs and plans from subcontractors.
- Experience of engineering lifecycle management and requirements management.
- Knowledge in materials and component selection, in the space domain.
- Desirable experience with AIV of optical payloads and OGSE.
Qualifications:
- BSc in Optics, Physics, or engineering, ideally with proven related practical optical design experience.
- Optical design experience with high proficiency in Optic Studio (Zemax) is essential.
- Design and analysis software knowledge, e.g., SolidWorks, Ansys, SigFit, Python is desirable.
- Self-motivated, creative, high attention to detail.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills.
- Ability to work autonomously or within project teams managing their own work and working with subcontractors or suppliers.
- Recognised ability to deliver.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Good team working skills and communication skills.
- Knowledge of spacecraft systems/design would be an advantage, including materials.
- Good knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of Quality Management requirements.
