Job Summary:

The Engineering Team at Teledyne UK Limited seeks a highly skilled Optical Engineer to oversee the optical design and analysis for a new payload for the European Space Agency (ESA). The successful candidate will work closely with the project team and subcontractors to ensure the payload meets the project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and provide feedback on optical design and analysis documentation, balancing technical requirements with programmatic and budget constraints.
  • Provide support to project teams on the optical design, analysis, and build throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with subcontractors, customers, and suppliers to deliver an optical design solution and analysis that meets the project requirements.
  • Advise on risk, programmatic, and budgetary issues with respect to proposed designs.
  • Train and mentor other team members on optical design, analysis, and technology.
  • Contribute to the preparation of bid and proposal material.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of optical design, preferably for space applications, with a working knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to prioritize and support multiple optical design issues in parallel.
  • Basic opto-mechanical knowledge.
  • Experience of engineering lifecycle management and requirements management.
  • Knowledge of materials and component selection in the space domain.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • BSc in Optics, Physics, or engineering, with proven related practical optical design experience.
  • Optical design experience with high proficiency in Optic Studio (Zemax) is essential.
  • Design and analysis software knowledge, e.g., SolidWorks, Ansys, SigFit, Python is desirable.
