Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client, a world leader in the scientific and satellite/space industries, is seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Chelmsford.

This role requires a mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of optics and mechanical mounting, as well as experience in design and analysis of opto-mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the design of mounting arrangements for optics
  2. Review and validate mounting arrangements designed by sub-contractors
  3. Assist with requirements management of opto-mechanical technologies
  4. Conduct opto-mechanical analysis, including tolerance, thermal, static, and dynamic analysis
  5. Design and develop mechanical components
  6. Support verification and testing of opto-mechanical systems
  7. Produce gate review documentation
  8. Liaise with stakeholders to ensure high quality standards are met
Requirements:
  1. Knowledge of precision mechanical mounting of optics for structural, dynamic, and thermal environments
  2. Ability to review and validate opto-mechanical designs
  3. Competent with CAD packages
  4. Experience in opto-mechanical design and analysis
  5. Knowledge of requirements management
  6. Experience preparing and presenting design documentation for gate reviews
